Diesel Mechanic - Field and Workshop based role!

Looking for a change? Want to work for a business where you’re more than just another number?

EmployMe is recruiting on behalf of a well-respected, family-run mechanical business in the Waikato that’s known for looking after both its customers and its people. They’re now looking to take on their very first employee - an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic who’s keen to be part of something hands-on and help a growing family business take the next step.

This is a full-time, permanent role with a minimum of 40 hours per week, offering plenty of variety across trucks, diggers, tractors, and other heavy machinery. While the focus is mainly on trucks, no two days are the same. You’ll split your time between workshop-based jobs and field service work, so it’s a great fit for someone who enjoys getting out and about rather than being stuck in the same place every day.

You would be based in Ngāruawāhia or surrounding areas such as Hamilton, Te Awamutu, and nearby Waikato locations.

This is a genuine opportunity to grow alongside a family business that values good people, hard work, and a down-to-earth attitude. The owner is easy-going, approachable, and focused on creating a work environment where the job is enjoyable and people are looked after.

What you’ll need:
  • Trade qualification in Heavy Diesel or international equivalent qualification or 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience working on trucks and heavy equipment
  • Class 4 licence preferred, but not essential
  • A reliable attitude and willingness to get stuck in
  • Flexibility for occasional overtime or callouts
What you will be doing
  • Diagnose, service, maintain, and repair diesel trucks, excavators, diggers, earthmoving equipment, and other heavy machinery in the workshop
  • Conducting field service repairs, breakdown response, and maintenance work at customer locations and work sites as directed
  • Conduct fault-finding on mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine systems using diagnostic tools and manufacturer specifications
  • Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, component replacements, and breakdown repairs to minimise equipment downtime
  • Dismantle, repair, reassemble, test, and commission machinery and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation
  • Complete field service work and respond to equipment breakdowns at customer sites as directed
  • Maintain accurate service records and comply with all health and safety requirements

What’s on offer:
  • $38 - $40 per hour depending on experience
  • Full-time permanent position
  • Minimum 40 hours per week
  • A service vehicle provided for field work
  • Varied work across trucks, diggers, tractors, and heavy machinery
  • Opportunity to grow with a family business from the ground up
If you’re the sort of mechanic who likes getting the job done right and wants to be part of something you can genuinely help build, this is an opportunity worth looking at.
Don’t miss out on the chance to be the first key person in a growing family business where your skills will directly shape the future.

Apply now through EmployMe with your CV and a bit about your experience.
